Being Overweight And Having My First Baby?

I’m not a fit woman, and I was wondering if any other bigger mama’s could give me some advice and tips to try and keep excess weight off, and still eat what I need to.

I also have no idea what else to expect.. Is it different at all from well.. thinner.. moms? I keep hearing about preclampsia(?) and its relation to overweight mothers, but should I be worrying about anything else?

  • I’m very overweight. I had preeclampsia with my first (when I wasn’t overweight) but not with my second (when I was overweight). And you are at higher risk if you have had it once. So don’t worry about weight and preeclampsia.

It’s unhealthy for the baby to try to lose weight during pregnancy. Just maintain a healthy weight gain 5 pounds or less by week 12 and 1-2 pounds/week after that. The weight you put on during pregnancy isn’t fat its the baby, amniotic fluid, the placenta, extra blood to support the baby, and breast tissue. You need that gain to have a healthy baby. Just make healthy food choices and avoid extra salt and concentrated sugars (concentrated sugars are candies, desserts and soda stuff like that). Also consider breast feeding. Breast feeding burns tons of calories. I ate everything that wasn’t nailed to the floor while I was breast feeding and I was still losing 5 pounds a week. I wish I was still breast feeding I would be perfect weight by mid summer!

  • When I got prego I was 230 the day I delivered I was 333 and no preclamp or diabetes its all about what u eat when I was prego I never drank pop just water or tea yes I did gain a lot but if u watch ur salt abd sugars eat right u will be fine

  • I was also a overweight mom. I had a very easy pregnancy except for morning sickness but most moms have that. I had to work very had at not gaining to much weight my doctor didn’t want me gaining more that 25lbs and I didn’t but it was very hard. Its all about moderation I would eat healthy all day and let myself have a treat at night. I didn’t have any problems with my blood pressure at all. One thing with overweight women do have a higher risk of gestational diabetes. Your doctor will talk with you about that and any other possible risks. But like I said I had perfectly healthy pregnancy’s and babies. My doctor told me I make pregnancy look easy.

  • When your overweight you only suppose to gain 11 to 15 pounds and you won’t show til later on. High blood pressure and gd is possible but that’s for ant pregnancy.
