The wireless routers needs to have a modem internally built in to the router or modem connected to it. You wont be able to connect online via ps3 unless you don’t have internet. This can be done also with a wireless router with a usb wireless broadband usb port thats the other way you can do it. You would need a usb dongle bb stick to do this.

Well, what internet service do you have? You have to buy some services from some ISP to connect to the internet. After that, you can use all the wireless routers or switches you want.
A wireless router works just fine without a modem, provided all you are doing is communicating with other computers in your own house, on you own home network (LAN). It will act as a simple network switch in that case….
