Can santoryu be used/achieved?

Santoryu which translates to “Three Swords Style” im not sure if it is an actual thing or was just made up. I heard of it on the anime one piece. It is used by roronoa zoro where one sword is held in the mouth by the handle and then one in each hand. In the anime when it shows his training he holds weights in his mouth and slowly increases the weight. If you were to train like this could you actually be capable of wielding a sword in your mouth? I am able to use one sword and an about to start training in the art of two swords.

If you could in fact hold the sword in your mouth and swing it could you effectively cut some one or block a one handed sword attack?

  • Holding a sword in your mouth is just about useless. Your jaw and neck muscles aren’t designed for the kinds of motions necessary to actually cut something.

Even two swords is pushing it a bit, if they’re cutting weapons. There’s a really big chance you’ll cross over your own lines of attack.

Incidentally, most functional swords weighed less than 5lbs.

  • Good luck holding a 25 pound sword in your mouth

  • as far as I know there wasn’t any swordmen in Samurai era have done it before, only Musashi who created two sword technique, I guess it would be difficult to use your mouth to do slashing with a sword

  • It’s made up man. At most there’s only nitoryu. How naive are you?
