  • Yeah, as long as you want to be a doctor in Africa
  • Yes, but it will take some time.

  • Yea, you can probably study to be anything you want. Finding a job may be harder, as you will most likely have to settle for a lower ranked college due to your grades (which may deter some employers, especially if the field of work is competitive).

  • Maybe, in your dreams.

  • It’s not true that people can be whatever they want, even without F’s. Many more people want to be the President of the United States than ever could be unless there were assassinations left and right. And most of us have limits that would make it impossible for us to be certain things. We tell children they can be anything they want because we don’t know yet what their limits are and we don’t want to create avoidable limits.

But to get at what I think you’re asking, if those 14 F’s are in high school, then yes, if you find a way to go to college and excel, you will still be in the running for medical school. Of course, if you got 14 F’s in high school it’s not all that likely that you have the ability, the educational background, *and* the discipline to get to, much less through, medical school, but there are some people who could fail miserably in high school and pull it off. A very few people.

If those 14 F’s are in college, then you’re talking about a lot more time in undergraduate courses than other people would need, and that means you’re talking about being able to fund full-time study after your federal financial aid eligibility ran out in order to finish while you’re still young enough that your body can cope with residency. Most people don’t have that kind of money. Even then, those 14 F’s could ruin your chances just by being on your transcript. I’m not going to say there’s no-one in the world who could pull it off, but I doubt there are very many. Far fewer than could pull it off with 14 F’s in high school, though, without a doubt.

I should also point out that anyone who really wants to be a doctor and isn’t living in a world of pure fantasy is not going to rack up 14 F’s in high school *or* college, because after the first one begins to look likely, he or she is going to go figure out what went wrong so that he or she doesn’t end up with 14 F’s.
