Can you tile a shower wall behind a circuit breaker box?

Renovating my condo, and behind one of the plastic tub surrounds is the breaker box, with mains and all other wiring below and above. There was nothing in place, just a plastic surround on top of the studs. Can I tile over this area? It is the wall across from the shower spout.

I’m putting down a piece of acrylic over the back of the box (overlapping the studs) for extra security, then firring out the studs for the tub, covering in # felt with asphalt cement, and then attaching the cbu for the tile. I think this should be sufficient to prevent any moisture problems?

Update:

Forgot to mention, but I live in CT, since different areas follow different codes

  • If you do the tile job properly, it makes no difference what is on the other side of the wall. Any moisture issue will be a SERIOUS problem long before it is bad enough to penetrate all the way though the wall.

  • total overkill what your doing its the back of the box just do your tiling as if the box wasnet there

I don't plan on using it- just don't have any ideas on how to make the fireplace look better. Someone mentioned it looked like a cheap looking fireplace. Is there a way I could decorate it with removing the inside of it- there's a gas hook up behind it. Any ideas? By the looks this is a old gas fire heater from the 40's or 50's. it looks like there is no vent for the fumes. They were design that way. Unfortunately many people got sick from the fumes and they were banned. In saying that if there is no exhaust or chimney you cannot use a gas fireplace. Someone I know had this very same fireplace . It looks like a fireplace but no chimney There are nice electric ones that are not bad actually very nice. If you can run hydro to that spot that is a Read more

Why are there so few modern contemporary homes in the USA?

are there any government regulations that don't allow this particular style to be built, be waste of energy, gas, materials, etc,?✅ Answers Answerer 1 That depends on where you live, but the majority of US homebuyers tend to prefer "traditional" or older looking style homes. It's just a question of taste and marketing. Builders save money by building the same style for everyone so they just pick what is most popular and stick to that. Popularity lowers prices and is self-perpetuating since building materials and furnishings in that style will also proliferate until the cheapest style for most common people becomes that one. The Northeast, Midwest and Southeast tend to have the most tradutional taste. You are more apt to find modern looking homes on the West Coast , the Gulf coast and the intermountain West. Technically, the common "ranch-style" house is modern and you will find plenty of those everywhere. It's all relative and how you define modern. Back in the early 20th century Craftsman style homes were considered "modern" and now they are considered "vintage and quaint".
