Compare and contrast the effects of structural and cyclical unemployment?

Hi, In my economics homework I have been asked to fully compare and contrast the effects of structural and cyclical unemployment. I understand the basic concepts of both structural and cyclical unemployment, but I am not sure how to compare them in depth. Sorry its quite a big question. Thanks for your time.

  • Structural unemployment can be both in short and long term, but cyclical unemployment can be only in the short term. It will go away when the economy has turned around. For example, there is a mismatch in the labor market when skills have not been demanded by employer. It will cause structural unemployment. It will occur when the economy is in transition such as from agriculture to manufacturing and from manufacturing to services sector. In the case of cyclical, the unemployment is caused by recession or depression.
