Help with energy bill calculations!?

Looking for the Electric bill for this thing before I buy it. Portable AC has 12 watts. I want the kWh for 12 watts at 10 hours per day for 270 days per year. I live in AZ, its HOT. Thanks! And HELP PLEASE!!!

  • The 12 watts is just the maximum power draw, you still don’t know how often it will run during the 10 hours as it will cycle on and off. You need to look at the SEER efficiency rating.

    As Arizona is dry, you may want to consider evaporative coolers, the indirect ones don’t humidify your indoor air. At the very least, they could pre-cool the air for your AC. Problem with evaporative coolers is that they consume water and Arizona is pretty short on water.

    1.2kW * 10 h = 12 kWh

    12 kWh * 270 days = 3240 kWh per year in your case.

    A quick look online says that the avg electricity rate for AZ in march 2013 was less than 11 cents/kWh

    so you’re looking at about $350 in cooling costs.

    Typically your HVAC accounts for 30-45% of your electric bill, but that varies on usage and temperature you keep.
