How can I go away to Hawaii for college?

Im 19, graduated from high school in Texas and I want to move to Hawaii to go to college. How can I make this work??? I have NO money and my parents won’t lend any to me. Any college in Hawaii will be fine. A community college with dorms would be preferred if it’ll make expenses cheaper. Id really just like to know a step by step process I can take in order to accomplish my goal. What will I have to do in order to go to school there?

  • College is expensive, more so if you leave the state you are a resident in.

Unless your college education is going to specifically be related to Hawaii, I would suggest a different approach.

Grab the community college education, complete the AA in Texas, keeping an eye open for an opportunity to complete college in Hawaii – if that doesn’t work out, you completed the AA and have locked in that much of your education.

Complete the Bachelor’s Degree in Texas and see if you can lock in a job in Hawaii and move there.

Another alternative – which might take less time to get you there is to train in a technical field that is set to be hot in Hawaii – use this tool for help:

    www.bls.gov/ooh

That is the Occupational Outlook Handbook and our taxes pay for it – and it is a great tool! A lot of great paying jobs do not require college, but most require something more than showing up. Technical training, natural ability or motivation, dedication and determination will see you through if you have enough of it.

Best wishes for much success, always!
