How do I clean my knitted blanket?

I have knitted a block blanket for a friend’s new baby and I want to clean it before I give it to her. The blocks are mostly white with pink, purple, yellow and teal around it. I worked really hard on it and am worried the colors will bleed if I put it in the wash. What is the best way for me to clean it? Thanks!

  • Use Woolite, cool water on gentle cycle. Tumble dry low just until some of the dampness is out, then line dry the rest of the way.

  • Hopefully, you saved the packaging from the yarn you used to knit the blanket. If so, follow the instructions on the yarn bands, which should also tell you whether the yarn you used is colorfast. (This is something to check while you’re at the yarn shop before you buy your yarn.) Also, make a copy of the instructions for your friend.
