We are visiting Canada from USA with Nevada state license plates, due to expire June 29, 2013. We cannot leave Canada to go back to USA until October. How do we get an extension or renew the plates from here? Impossible? (We can’t leave Canada until Oct. due to unfortunate set of circumstances). Any suggestions? Leave car here and fly back? Husband wants to drive, but I don’t see how we can do it.

You have a number of problems. First problem is your residence address. Are you still receiving mail at your address of record? If you are then arrange with the person who handles your mail to pay the registration and forward to you the renewal you should be all right. When you renew you not only pay a fee but confirm with the state of Nevada your legal residence. You should know that it is permissible to renew registration and drivers licenses six months in advance so there is little excuse for such stress.
