How much is enough for back to school stuff?

My kids ages 13 and 9 need everything for school. How much is sufficent enough for each kid? Jeans, tops, shoes/sneakers, etc. Please give details if you can. How much should I spend on each child? My oldest is into name brands so take that into consideration, too.

  • In all honesty if they ahve 5 or so pairs of pants and some shorts with shirts to go with it they will be fine (I own maybe 15 shirts and and a little over 5 jeans and I enevr have to search for something to wear).
  • I like to spend about !50-2 and shop for sales. if you are on a budget make sure they have 1 pair of sneakers, shoes, `0 shirts, 5 pairs of pants, 10 socks, and udnerwears. Also, school supplie I buy alot of stock up so in case they need anything during the year i dont pay full price

  • well buy them each a pair of jeans and a couple tops get the oldest less if they want name brand but more if they will settle for whatever

  • I bought my daughter 4 new short set outfits and 4 new jeans outfits. A pair of new tennies and some loafers. (She’s 8). My son is also a name brand shopper and we bought several mix and match outfits and $150 tennis shoes. (My girls were $50). I spent more on him as it is more important to a 15 year old. I probably spent $6 and they look good, clean and should do ok.

  • you`ll probley need backpack, pencils, folder, binder, and bookcovers and other little necessities

  • Well, for me when i was younger my mom and dad would take me and my three brothers shopping for school. I use to luv it cuz i get a lot of stuff. but the things you probably need is tee shirts and some long sleeves. Some sweatshirts for the fall going into winter. sneakers. I would always buy 2 pairs of shoes, sneakers and dress shoes cuz i would luv wearing boots. Some socks and maybe underwears. My parents would tell use to get new underwears or undershirts and stuff. We would also buy some sweat pants also. But since your oldest is in to name brands you might have to spend extra. I remember going to Bob’s stores for our school shopping when we buy clothes. But since im older i usually buy my own clothes and go to different stores. My parents would have to spend a lot of money for me and my 3 brothers. We would all ways feel bad about them buying use a lot of stuff but they would want use to be prepared for school. and as long as we do good in school. then they would buy use the school supplies also. o ya and back packs. hope i helped

  • If you have a Plato’s Closet near you check them out. They have current styles at very low prices.Check to see if they have a website so you can find a store near you.

THE OLD ONE MIGHT WANT ABERCROMBIE, HOLLISTER, AMERICAN EAGLE, AEOROPOSTALE, THEY ARE EXPENSIVE SO JUST SO THAT YOU KNOW. THEY SELL CLOTHES

  • first go through your house to see what you already got. take your kids with you cuz they’re old enough to know what they need. buy what you need and dont spend more than you need to.

  • I usually get like 5 prs of jeans per kid… 7+ shirts… a pk of socks, a pk of underwear, a pr of new shoes and a bookbag etc. On 2 , I spent about 4.

  • here they wear school uniforms best idea ever PC BEACH/FLORIDA

  • $250.

  • not much, I recycle school supplies.
Clothes whenever they are on sale I buy them.
If I find something larger than my 9 yr old daughter’s size, I go ahead and buy those too, that way I’m not rushing to the store at every growth spurt.

  • $3 for teens, $150 elementary school

  • My boys are 12 & 13. I can get away with just a couple of cool shirts (name brand) & new shoes (name brand). Otherwise, the clothes they already have work until fall. Than when the weather cools off & the fall clothes are available, I shop then. My kids are growing like weeds & with my luck, they’d be too small by the time they need to wear them.

  • $250

    i have a 14 year old daughter

  • Well, I have a 12 and 15 year old. I spent over $3 on each of them. That included 2 pairs of shoes, a backpack and their clothes. Many of the items were on sale, in fact I saved $115 on items from Mervyn’s. My 15 year old son really got into clothes this year. He has a whole new image!

  • I only buy shoes and 1 pair of jeans at first because it is still warm enough for shorts. Then when all the clothes go on sale a little later in the school year I get a lot more for my money!!! With 2 boys that blow holes in jeans like they are nylons sales are very important.

  • Kids also love to have their own money to spend, this has worked for me. I give them a budget. Say $150 to spend on go back to school clothes. They can buy a pair of jeans for $50 because they have a nice brand or they can go to cheaper stores and get 2 or 3 pairs, they really get how much it cost and how much they can over spend by going with the crowd.
There are great stores that sale beautiful stores like Ross, Marshalls, TJ Max, they are not as expensive and there is something for all of them. Don’t spent over $150 in clothes, that is more than plenty at that age. Give them the resposibility. They will love that!

  • I’m 15 (10th) and since 7th grade (13) my parents have given me around 3-7$ for school cloths and supplies i have budget to be able to afford everything i need and so far i’ve never made a mistake.

  • For the 13 year old I say 2. total, for clothing and shoes , for the younger one about 125.

  • I try to buy at least 5 shirts and about 3 pairs of jeans. Also pair of shoes and undies for my two kids, They like the “worn” look of last year’s clothes so I don’t worry about things going out of style or things for them to wear.

  • Well, if you buy five outfits, and two pairs of shoes they should do fine until the Christmas holidays. It stays warm here until November, so my kids can still wear their summer clothes, (we buy summer clothes, school clothes, and Christmas clothes). I spent around four hundred dollars on clothes, shoes, and school supplies, that will last until Christmas. Shop for bargains with the name brands, like Ross’ Dress for less, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and Old Navy.

  • I’m a mom of 3 boys, 16, 13 and 12. My oldest worked to pay for his own school clothes and spent nearly 3 on his stuff: 7 shirts, 2 shorts, 2 jeans, a pair of shoes, another 20 bucks on supplies, pens, paper, folder, etc.

My other 2 are still pretty simple to work with, each can get the same amount as their older brother, but each be under 150. It depends where you shop, where you live, my oldest shopped at Hollister, Aeropostle, while the other 2 went to JC Penney, Walmart, they all look nice, durable. I don’t feel a bit guilty about shopping for the other 2 this way, but it’s ultimately up to you.

    Good luck!

  • we shop at a second hand store

  • you shouldn’t have to spend that much on your kids school clothes especially since there are a lot of stores like Ross or marshals that take a whole bunch of money off of the prices from department store prices so i think by going to one of these stores you should only spend about 50 dollars per kid

  • well i spent around $5 dollars, i bought like 7 pants 3 shorts two pairs of shoes and a bunch of shirts. but dats cause i have a part time lil job and im going to school fulltime, but for a 13 or 9 year old around 2 each is ok since they dont really care about looks.

dats wat i think im not sure.

  • I have a 13 year old. She would have liked to have had about 7…but I bargain shop so I spent around…3.

  • MY MOTHER GIVES US $ 3 $ BUCKZ EACH FOR SCHOOL. I THINK THATS ENOUGH.

  • $3. each for teens and $2. each for elementary and that price includes basic school supplies along with clothes, and shoes. I have four kids, so we spent about $10.! It is more costly for back-to-school than it is for Christmas!!!!

  • My answer is if your children are going to school in an environment that still is rather warm, get them a few new pair of shorts if their old ones are ratty. If not, (like my son who has many pairs of shorts that still look new) get them new shirts and pairs of shoes. They can always pair their new shirts with their less than worn shorts with a new pair of shoes and no one will be the wiser. After that, get them new pants and shirts. Also, get them a few needed items for back to school supplies. Just wait until the teacher publishes a list of what they need before you go and invest too much in supplies. My experience is that the teacher’s always want something different, so wait until they give you a list before you go crazy on the “back to school supplies” often times, you will be surprised.
