  • It depends on what you mean by ‘your own voice’ stories should not really be told by the author, they should be told by a character — even if you are writing in third person omnipresent — that narrator has feelings and an opinion, tap into those feelings. The Narrator also has a reason for telling the story. Simply find that reason. If it helps, put on an accent in your head, you’ll be amazed at how different your prose becomes just by doing that.

    Hope it helped 🙂

  • Just write as though you are talking. Your tone, your style of speech, the terms and sayings you use, whether the book takes on an optimistic or more depressing tone, that all defines it, but don’t focus on voice. Just write and your voice will show through.

  • Write every day for about a decade.

That’s what it took for me.

Okay not every day. But that is how you develop it. It isn’t created. It’s already in you like a muscle. It needs to be exercised and developed. The best way to do that is write every day.

Don’t just write the same stuff. Write some poetry, short stories. Persuasive stuff.

Just write every day it it will begin to show itself.

  • Be authentic, true to yourself. Have something original to say, don’t try to write what you think is or will be popular, but rather tell a story you feel passionate about.
