I think my Blue and Gold Mcaw is trying to lay an egg. What do I do?

My bird Jasmine is six years old, I’ve had her only one year, and she’s been actinf very strange. As far as I know she’s never laid an egg before.

She makes these weird sort of soft screaming noises and she puts her hind end in the air. Everytime she screams it looks like something is trying to come out but nothing does. She HAS done this screaming-butt thing before but not for long. Now she’s been doing it for longer periods of time.

I heard that certain birds can die while laying eggs and I certainly don’t want that to happen. Is she laying an egg or is she sick?

  • Start by putting some oil on the preheated pan..

  • Sure she is hormonal and sees you as the mate and that may put into breeding mode. Pleasant factor to do is when she lays the eggs they usually do not destroy go away them in there except she tires of them. As soon as she tires of them and sees they will no longer hatch throw them away. But wait on account that if she does not tire of them and you get rid of them she’s going to maintain laying to exchange her seize. Ensure she has a lot calcium at the moment. Cuttle bones, overwhelmed oyster shell, boiled eggs with shell on reduce up and calcium rich meals so she does now not end up calcium poor as this can purpose many health problems even loss of life. You may also wish to scale down the amount of sunshine she is getting. The longer the times the more she will come into breeding mode. Good luck. Can also seek advice vet if keep happening as they are able to supply hormone photographs if indispensable.

  • If she has had calcium in her cage such as a cuttle bone or crushed oyster shells then she will lay an egg and be fine. However this sounds like breeding behavior and not egg laying to me.

If you cut down her daylight hours by covering her early with a dark sheet and leaving it on until well after sun up she will slow down this behavior. She should sleep in a dark room – no artificial light, etc.

  • Take her to the vet. ASAP
