  • I’ve heard of Kyokushin Karate numerous times and have even sparred a few. I’m from/live in Birmingham, AL and know quite a few schools, instructors (I’m an instructor @ my school) and local practitioners. If you want Karate I suggested USNKF affiliate schools like the one in Roebuck. The master is a close friend of mine. There is also USA Martial Arts in Hoover. I recently competed in their open Karate tournament. They also teach Aikido. There’s another Aikido school in Homewood that is also a elective class for UAB students. I don’t know much of the particular school you listed but I can ask around and get some info on their reputation if you like. Feel free to email me @ [email protected]. Best of luck.

  • Seems like any average karate place. There are you tube videos with these guys. Typical stuff. The main guy has a video at some sort of demo with a sword. Entertaining but as usual the guy with the sword is following per arranged steps very carefully and swinging very lazy to make sure it looks ok. The sword catching was a little silly. Doubt it was sharp, sword guy went VERY easy and gave plenty of notice he was about to swing and very obviously held back with zero pressure on the sword. Basically just moved it so the main guy could “catch” it. Let some Homicidal maniac come at him with a sword the result would be very different.

I suppose for exercise this place would be fine but when they resort to silly fake demos I would not expect anything spectacular from them.

  • I mean the site looks good. Except that there is no schedule or anything like that listed. And 145 $ for 2 months seems reasonable to me. I pay 60$/month for MMA, so it’s about the same.

  • Looks good to me. I’m familiar with the founder. He is well spoken of by people I respect. If they are anything like the old days juts a few decades ago, expect a hard workout…
