Is my webcam malfunctioning?

The web cam gives explorer error in windows every time i try to view the camera and in dos it hangs the whole system…then when i take it out it resumes boot normally.The web cam works normally in my other older pc Please Help.

USB 2.0

1GB RAM

Built in Video Card

80 GB HDD

The web cam it self does not require drivers.

I got it working in windows mode..some codes problem.sinces it has a built-in mic.but in dos it still hangs and when i pop out the usb the boot continues normally.

  • That device does indeed drivers. ALL hardware does. Drivers are essentially instructions of how to use the hardware. With each newer operating system, newer drivers are needed. It could very well be that this cam is not compatible with newer hardware or newer operating systems.

    So you say it does not boot normally if that is connected. What happens if you connect it later? Is this when you get an error?

    Need more information to effectively answer. If it works in the older systems, what are the specs on those (Model or MB part and the OS)

    I have some webcams that only work with 98se. Its frustrating but a manufacturer has no incentive to create drivers that allow it to work with a newer system when they could better take that time and money to making and selling a new cam.

  • In Device Manager, camera device properties (or if usb, in root hub device),

    Power Management tab, put a check in ‘allow …’
