it is possible to have a farm with an “outhouse” in back for one family but not for a city of 10,0 in a small neighborhood

  • It all comes down to sanitation. Proper disposal of human waste is one of the most critical needs for large cities, along with adequate food and water. Cholera and typhoid are frequent results of inadequate sanitation – both are water-borne diseases that spread like wildfire from human waste. Typhoid fever is endemic in more than half the world, cholera is less frequent but is widespread in the non-industrialized world.

Activists claim we can live just fine without electricity, but they overlook the problem of sanitation. With few exceptions our homes have water pressure because water is pumped to elevated tanks and the “head” is produced by gravity. Without electricity the pumps don’t work, our homes do not have running water, and sanitation fails.

  • The Roman Empire was great at sanitation, including composting or residue and using it for fertilizer on the fields. They were also great transporting drinking water and building bath houses without electricity. Some aqueducts build 2,0 years ago, still are operational.
