Not all authors write novels. Some authors write non fiction (novels are, by definition, fiction) and some may write short stories, news articles, or travel pieces. In other words, while all novelists are authors, not all authors are novelists.
Yes. An Author can be someone who has published a short story, a novella, an article in a paper, etc. A novelist can only be someone that publishes a novel.
