  • If you’re looking for a place to live close to the centre of Newcastle, Jesmond is your best bet. It takes no more than 5 minutes to walk there from the city centre.

Ouseburn is also really nice. There’s a lot of regeneration going on there. You’d be living in a flat instead of a house. It takes about 10 – 15 minutes to walk into town from there. It’s probably better value than Jesmond too, as long as you don’t mind not having a garden.

The Quayside is great but very pricey.

For £650 a month, you could get a decent house in Heaton – which is a lovely area – but it’s not really within walking distance (30 – 40 minutes).

Avoid the west end of Newcastle. Cowgate, Elswick, Benwell, Denton, Fenham – Not great places to live.

  • I agree Heaton is nice, Cowgate is okay but I would not avoid the West end as there is a thriving Muslim community there.
