Looking for a good starter bike?

I’m 5’10 155lbs I have ridden my friends 89 maxim 750 a bit and have had dirt bikes in the past. I’m looking for a something that has more of a rocket style but tuned down Ive looked at some 250 R’s but ill be riding with 6’s and an older 11 and worry about being able to stay close! What do you think and other suggestions would be great thank you

  • I always recommend a medium-sized standard–that is, Suzuki GS5 or SV650, Honda 599, Kawasaki Ninja 5 or 650 (NOT the 6, that’s not a standard), Yamaha FZ6R ‘Fazer’. Something like that. Not a serious sportbike like Honda CBR, Suzuki GSX-R, Yamaha R6–those are not easy to ride, not forgiving for a beginner.

    If you don’t mind cruisers you could start on a 750. Honda Shadow, Kawasaki Vulcan, Yamaha Star, etc.
