Should women be encouraged to skip their period in order to reduce waste caused by pads & tampons?

  • I’m not sure if this is a joke or not — because there are ways to skip periods with new drugs. But I really feel they just can’t possibly know if this is safe for women years down the road in terms of cancers and other things that could develop from this.

Women might be able to use less pads and tampons or use unbleached ones from companies like Seventh Generation that have less impact on the environment.

I would imagine a worse impact is diapers actually! If more people used cloth diapers, at least some of the time, that would be a huge impact. I also think people tend to use too many diapers. I have seen people take diapers off their babies that weren’t even soiled in any way. If the diapers resealed easier, this woudl be possible. But of course the diaper companies wouldn’t want THAT. Chlorine-free diapers are also available and that could help lessen the impact on the enviroment as well.

  • why? it’s painful to skip periods and they are painful enough. beacause when you finally have one again it’s worse than usual. though I can see the environmental advantage.

  • I understand where this is coming from but skipping periods is bad for your bones. Also there are better ways to reduce waste such as recycling more or using cloth diapers on babies there are also products for your period that reduce waste.…

  • Are you serious? There are far more important things the effect our environment. SKIPPING YOUR PERIOD IS DANGEROUS.

Why should we endanger our health?

  • I am not sure if it makes much sense from a waste reduction point of view. But skipping periods would reduce the rate of breast cancer. There is a direct relationship between the number of periods a woman has and her chances of having breast cancer.

Going back to cloth diapers would make a much bigger dent in the solid waste problem. Disposable diapers are one of the single largest items filling our solid waste disposal sites nation wide. Cloth diapers are a huge pain in the butt though, no pun intended ;).

A relatively painless way of making a very large contribution to the environment is to drive a very high mileage car. I drive a Prius and I get nearly 50 mpg. My old car got about 20 mpg. I was surprised to learn that change alone has enabled me to reduce my carbon dioxide emissions by about 37 tons! That is 74 thousand pounds! I found that out when I answered one of the other Yahoo questions. Oh, I also have saved nearly $10,0 on gas since I bought the car.

What are some of the things you do to lead a more sustainable lifestyle?

Many years ago, Kate and I developed a Stewardship Model for Tom’s of Maine in order to codify all of the natural, sustainable practices we were already following—such as only using natural ingredients and never testing on animals. The Stewardship Model sets out very specific standards for natural, sustainable, and responsible practices, and guides all of us every day in our decision making. Kate and I also feel that a commitment to sustainability should be incorporated into all areas of the company—not just the product formulations. Let me share just two examples: our packaging designer, Jack, purchases only post-consumer-waste recycled and recyclable materials and soy-based inks; and my Director of Product Supply, Mark, had some great ideas about using renewable energy sources, so in 26, we began purchasing wind energy credits to offset 1% of our factory’s electricity needs.275 ✅ Answers? Where do you find the most helpful information about natural products?

240 ✅ Answers? Favorite AnswerMy grandmother's lap and company information, ingredients lists, store cupboard. The problem with so called 'natural products' is that they often are not natural at all. I have one motto when it comes to putting things on my body 'If I won't happily eat it, then I won't ever put it on my skin' When commercial 'natural products' live up to my standards, I will reconsider them. In the mean time, the items that I have in my food cupboard are about the best I can do. Better for me, much better for the environment and better for people who are exploited in the production of commercial 'natural products'. Tell a sweatshop worker in a developing country that natural organic cotton is good for his/her health, wealth, community and well being. Natural store cupboard ingredients are not perfect, but they are the best I can do for myself, others and the natural world. They are the best and simplest solutions and cheapest too. **************** Edited to Add *******************Where do I find the most helpful information about natural products I refuse to use BECAUSE there is no way I would eat this, why would I put it on Read more

Is there a difference between wind and a crosswind?

My bf asked me to post this. He works construction and they said there was a 33 mph crosswind, he was wondering what the term means. I thought maybe it means winds are coming from different directions? If anyone knows the answer - we would appreciate it. Thanks in advance!5 ✅ Answers? A crosswind is any wind that is blowing perpendicular to a line of travel, or perpendicular to a direction. In aviation, a crosswind is the component of wind that is blowing across the runway making a landing more difficult than if the wind were blowing straight down the runway.Wind can be flatulence. Crosswind could be a real angry smelling one!Wind is wind movement of air headwind ,tailwind, crosswind are all directions of air travel for them to announce a crosswind they should have been speaking of a specific spot or location . Example( drive with caution north and south bound on I 35 between mile markers 1 and 130 due to very heavy crosswind of 33mph)2Crosswind is a component of wind. You have head wind, Read more

To what extent are recycling industries sustainable?

Im working on my extended essay and I would like to know to what extent are recycling industries (such as the paper industry, lead-acid car battery industries, etc) authentically sustainable. What are your arguments ¨for and against¨? thank you✅ Answers ? Best Answer All of them involve some new materials. Only a certain percentage of the paper can be made from recycled paper and the recycled paper is of degraded quality so it isn't sustainable as it always needs new mulch. Lead Acid batteries involve grinding down the plates and putting them in new plastic enclosures, some plates can't be ground down any more and are replaced with new plates and the old plates sent to a metal recycling shop. It still takes new material to recycle batteries so they aren't sustainable. What recycling does is stretch out the material, they aren't truly sustainable but they make the industry more sustainable or rather less un-sustainable. - Chosen by Asker They are sustainable because without them, the stuff would pollute the environment and ruin the ecosystems. like sea animals will die trying to eat plastic stuff. people can cut their feet on sharp cans and etc etc, and the chemical leached Read more
