  • It can be easier to understand if you have a concrete example.

You have bags of marbles, and each one has red marbles and blue ones. You want to find out the total number of marbles. There are two ways to do this (and knowing both will be important in algebra)

you could find out how many marbles are in each bag ( + =) and multiply that by ( x =).

    Or

You could find out how many red marbles there are total ( x = ), how many blue there are total ( x = ) and add them together to make the total ( + = )

    Doing it more formally –

    ( + ) = () =

    Or

    ( + ) = (x) + ( x ) = + = .

In short, you multiply what is outside the parenthesis by each number inside of it.

    Source(s): I teach this stuff

  • ( x ) + ( x )

  • first you have to distribute the & and multiply them which is and then distribute to and multiply those which is then add and which gives you

    hope it helps!

  • Sure thing

    (+)

You take the and x it by all the numbers in the ()

    So we do

    * =

    *=

    +

Where ever you see a +# you take that and subtract and in your case it is

    Then that is canceled

Now you do the same to the other number

    (x)=

  • multiply six times , then six times . You’ll get the same answer if you collect and to equal , then multiply that also by six.

  • ) x

    ) x

) add those two solutions together

  • You have to multiply everything that is inside of the parenthesis by .

    . (x)+(X)

    . +

    .

    🙂

  • work backwards… the common number being multiplied is . and the numbers being multiplied are . and . which are connected by a + sign. so, its (. + .) [they are connected by the addition sign inside of the parenthesis because they were connected by that in the orignial equation] =]
