Valve setting for a 4 stroke Diesel Marine Engine?

We have a Bergen Diesel Generator 740kw. (4 stroke – 6 cylinder)
It has 2 exhaust and 2 suction valve on cover.
I want to do valve clearance setting for it. (with 0.25mm filler as it is on instruction book)
But the D/G s are old, was mounted on ship at 1986, instructions are not detailed.

When I turn the shaft by hand there are marks on shaft like TDC 2-5, BDC bla-bla.
I cant remember the firing order but I can wrtie if u need.
If I’m not wrong I have to do the clearance setting when all exhaust and suction valves of the cylinder
are in closed position so that means when the piston of the cylinder is at tdc and in compression stroke. But the piston comes to tdc 2 times.

So what is the actual meaning of TDC 2-5 on shaft.
Does it mean one of them are at tdc for compression and the other one is at tdc right after exhaust?

How do I understand which one is at tdc for compression.
Can I understand it from loose push rods etc.

Please can u pls tell me an easy and practical way to do that valve setting

  • If you have tdc marks that is great. When it comes up to tdc, the cylinder with all valves closed (pushrods will be loose on both sets of valves for that cylinder) and that is the one to set. The other cylinder marked will have at least one set of valves open and the pushrod will be under tension.
