A young girl travels through something to find herself in the past. She comes to this backyard repeatedly and meets with a girl her age who keeps coughing into a handkerchief. Eventually, during a visit the traveler sees that she is coughing blood and the reader figures out she has TB. The girl with TB says that her mother doesn’t like her staying outside in the night air but she likes it…… or something.
This memory has been haunting me but I can’t remember where this scene comes from. I read it when I was very young (perhaps years ago) but it might be a classic. Thanks for any help!
