Why doesn’t my circuit work?

There’s a 12v halogen bulb and a 12v battery.

  • What is the wattage of the bulb? You probably need more amps.

So, for a 5W bulb at 12V, you would need 0.4 amps (400 mA). I can’t tell from you picture what kind of battery you have there, but based on the size of it, I doubt that it will give you 400 mA.

  • While a halogen bulb may be a 12 V device, a battery only has a capability of putting out a certain rating of amps depending on the technology. It’s tough to tell what type of battery you have, but you are drawing more than 0.4 A potentially.

Do you have a multimeter or some way of checking to see if the battery voltage has drooped below the 12 V open-circuit rating?

Assuming your devices are good, the best possibility is that you need to put more 12 V batteries in parallel to provide the current required.

  • Make sure if the bulb is designed to operate at 12V . It may so happen that the bulb is already fused or damaged due to overflow of current through it.

Also make sure you made the polarity connection correct. I don’t know that much about the halogen bulb or so, but you can do a little google to find it.
