Why don’t some customers ever listen to you?

Yesterday working at a rugby station in a kiosk. It was so busy yesterday, we were so busy and everything was running out such as burgers.
This man asked me if he could have a cheeseburger, however we ran out of the burgers. I told him in a calm friendly voice, “Unfortunately we have run out of burgers, is there anything else I could serve you?” I actually had to tell him like 4 times that we had run out, but he for some reason he just didn’t listen.
I said, “We have hot dogs, pies, did you want any of those?”

He then just shouted at me with, “Nothing then” and stormed off.

And then a few minutes later, he came back shouting at me saying that the service was bad.

I mean it wouldn’t have been bad if he wasn’t rude to me and if he listened and was patient.

Some people are just rude and impatient. Nothing you can do about that.

Well, the problem with that is that some people are rude, don’t listen and aren’t patient. There’s nothing you can do about them.

I can see why he was annoyed. I would be too.

But…… He had no reason to act like that in front of you. Sounds like he tried to humiliate you too which is unfair. You tried to help and he didn’t give you the chance, (evidence of not listening and storming off). Yes customers are usually right, but they are not in the right if they don’t cooperate.

And I don’t know why some users are beating you up about this. What are you expected to do?, use your magic wand and make everything better?. Yes that would be lovely, but unfortunately life doesn’t work like that. If you ran out, you ran out. However maybe the people you are working with, the manager or whatever could be more organised and support you on this. If something has ran out, just write a note somewhere to warn customers about something before you get the **** from them.

And to answer the questions. Customers never listen because they always think they are right and everything should be there for them just like that. In other words, they are so used to having their ar$e wiped for them.

I’ve decided that it’s because we live in a society in which people aren’t used to not getting their way. Service oriented jobs are now all tailored to bending over backwards for the customer (“customer is always right”?), so that every once in a while, when the customers demands just can’t be met for one reason or the next, they’re at a loss, because they simply don’t understand that they are not, in fact, always right.

Whoever is managing the kiosk is at fault for not ordering in adequate supplies.
    That’s bad service.

It’s because he didn’t want to hear what you had to say. He wanted his burger and some people just keep banging their head against the wall thinking they’ll get what they want in the end.

I can understand him being annoyed that the burgers had run out but there was no need to be rude about it. Anyone with common sense would know the person serving is rarely the person who ordered the amount of food to serve the stand that day.

I can see his point of view, first it is very bad practice to run out of the food that you are supposed to have, secondly he told you what he wanted and you kept trying to palm him off with something else! i would have been very annoyed too. He was quite right, the service was bad,a station is busy, you know that and should have made sure that the burgers were available, i expect that they are the most popular food there?

well what he was telling you was he was perturbed with the company not having what they said they would and for the poor planning and instead of you taking it to heart you should have passed the word upward to your manager. It was you who weren’t listening. In fact you could have found out when the bergers would be in your store and told him after a certain hour they would be available, not THAT is good customer service.

Why was he supposed to be patient, you gave him no time when what he wanted would be available. Everyone dislikes false advertising. If your store said it had burgers and didn’t then in a way it’s false advertising so he had every right to be perturbed. His way was to get angry enough so that it won’t happen in the future, but you ignored him.

I had a customer come in to the shop where I worked and speak very very quietly, little more than a grunt really, young guy, and he kept his shades on which also annoys me. I eventually figured he wanted some cigarettes from behind the counter as he appeared to be nodding in their general direction. So I said “which ones, these?” and pointed to a packed, but he shook his head a little to the right, so I moved my finger, “these?” I asked, he shook his head again, I moved my finger again and turned to look back at him, he nodded and grunted. “No, that’s just the bit of cardboard that shows the brand” I said, bending it back to show him, “we’re out of those.” And he stormed out.

Not only is the customer rarely right, but they’re frequently ugly and stupid.

I had a customer do something similar to me this weekend. We didn’t have what she was looking for but we had similar things just a different brand in another area. & she just had an attitude the whole time asking me to look in the back – but all our stock was out already nothing in the back to look for. I offered to call another store for her because the brand she was looking for is exclusively sold through the company I work for & she just was nasty about it. No matter how many solutions i tried to give her she just was nasty.
I think that she had her mind set on what she wanted and when it wasn’t in stock she got mad. Same thing with your customer he had his stomach and taste buds set on a burger & he just couldn’t believe that you would be out of it so he got mad. People are jerks. It had nothing to do with you.
