Why isn't my betta fish eating?

I have a little cave in my fish bowl and my betta always just stays in that when I feed him. When he finally comes out he still doesn’t eat! I don’t know what I’m doing wrong! His temperature is perfect and the tank is clean. Please help I’m worried about the little guy ( btw he is a male)

  • Give him a variety of food. They don’t like eating the same thing every day. You could try bloodworms or brine shrimp. Also, get him an actual tank that’s at least 5 gallons. He’ll also need a heater because they like their temperature at 82 degrees. Good luck! 🙂

  • One word: bowl. Bowls are great for soup and cereal, dreadful for fish.

Bettas require at least a 5 gallon tank with hood, heater, and gentle filter. How are you keeping a bowl a steady 78-80°? How are you filtering it? Did you cycle it? These are all things a Betta needs. I suspect he is trying to get warm, that is why they usually huddle in caves.

Get your Betta a proper home and very gradually increase the heat to the proper temperature (1-2° per day), and that should solve your problem. If you don’t, he will soon get sick, and it won’t be long before he dies.

Read some beginner’s aquarium keeping books to learn how to maintain a proper tank, and read some Betta care books to learn how to care for the little guy correctly. If you cannot give him a proper home, give him to someone who can.

  • In the event you didn’t feed your Betta bloodworm’s. For a even as and he received hungry adequate i’m certain he would devour the Betta bits. I supply my Betta bloodworm’s each different nite so if he needs anything to eat between then he higher it the bits. And he does. He likes the flakes to. I would say the bloodworm’s style higher than the bits. Just right luck.

  • Betta fish should be in a 5 gallon tank with a filter and a heater and it should of been cycled .

They dont live in bowls no fish does .

  • Just like humans, betta fish are picky eaters. He might not like the food you are giving him so you could try buying some different food and see if he likes that. If he still isnt eating, you should clear out his tank if he doesn’t eat because his food breaks down so the water gets sour.
