Probably because it was funnier and I loved seeing all the monster parodies.
It depends if you’re in the mood for a creepy-ish Tim Burton movie or a fun, cutesy Halloween one.

Hotel Transylvania is more a movie for girls, since the plot involves an overly protective vampire father learning to let go of his teen age vampire daughter.
Didn’t get to see Frankenweenie but feel it’s probably better that Hotel Transylvania.
