Purchasing a bike (Need advice)?

I’m looking to purchase a sportbike. I just got my permit today and only have about $7 saved up so far. I make about $150 a week and want to get the bike for the summer as soon as possible. I was thinking about financing a bike for about $25 or less but haven’t had any luck finding one I like. I turned to craigslist and found a few but wont be able to afford them for another month or month and a half. I am thinking about taking a loan out and paying the difference back. I’m only 19, am currently in college and have no idea how to go about this. Thank you.

  • you really can’t afford a sport bike..
to find one in your price range you will have to look at 15+ year old bikes which is going to make the likelihood of maintenance issues even higher than it already is
additionally, you really need 5 at least set aside for proper gear- helmet, jacket, pants, gloves, boots
and if your state requires it, you will need insurance also

all that aside, on my local craigslist i see several early/mid 90s ninjas, cbrs, etc in poor cosmetic condition for under $15

considering your budget and the fact that this will be your first bike, i’d recommend you look for something in the dual sport category… maybe an older yamaha xt225 or even a chinese/ korean knockoff… i picked up a 2cc zongshen dual sport for $7 and it’s been problem free for 20k miles

  • if you”re only making $150 per week, you”ll have a hard enough time just living, bikes and everything that go with them are expensive
