He is 42-0. He only fought twice in 26, twice in 27, did not fight in 28, once in 29, once in 2010, and once in 2011. At 3 fights a year, that would have been 11 more fights.

Mayweather would certainly have a few more fights on his record but I don’t think, in that time, that total would be 11. There are two reasons for this.
1. Taxes. Once Mayweather defeated De la Hoya, this placed him in a different tax bracket. Unfortunately, fighting more than twice, per year, puts him in the red with the very corrupt IRS. He would be fighting about one in four fights, over a period of 18 mos., for free. At his salary level, it’s just not worth it to fight for free. Given his schedule, from 06, til now, he could likely put about six more fights on his record at most, without giving those greedy b@stards more than they deserve.
2. Drama: It’s clear that Mayweather is like Michael Jackson. He does his best work on stage, or, in his case, In the ring. No matter what is happening in his life, he seems to completely turn it off, once he steps into the ring. It’s where he is at his best.
With the friction from his ex, the mother of his kids, and the many greedy low-lifes who continue their attempts at an easy payday (like that parking lot drama), I’m sure these incidences contributed to the break in his schedule.
This gives him about six more fights, taking his record to a possible 48-0, over the same time period. Excluding the “Pacquiao Initiative”, it’s likely that we would see names like Margarito, Cotto, Clottey and Berto, among others, on Floyd’s record. Let’s even throw in the rematch against De la Hoya.
I don’t see Floyd losing any of these fights. There are a few more possibilities, Bradley, Mike Jones, maybe. I was really looking forward to a fight with Cotto. I don’t think that accomplishes much now but it would still be interesting.
In any case, if you take out all the possible distractions, it’s realistic that he could be about 48-0 or 50-0. Pacquiao would have the best chance for a win. However, I think, the longer this fight is put off, the more Pacquiao’s chances diminish. I think he will decline a bit faster than Mayweather. As for the rest of the welterweights, since 26, I don’t see any of them beating Mayweather.

Well Mayweather was fighting at least 3 fights a year until 22 (in 97 he fought 10 times, but that’s normal for a young fighter coming out of the amateurs). Like Every White Woman’s Dream said (lol @ that name), slowing down the frequency of his fights helped preserve him so he’s able to fight well into his 30’s. Fighting that many times would have probably aged Floyd faster. At this stage in his career I don’t see anything wrong with slowing down the amount of fights he has, although I’m opposed to his year+ long “retirements”.

i was looking at his record the other night….in 1998 he had 4 fights…..
every year since, he’s had 3 or less fights…so i have never questioned his “retirements” that much….Floyd takes alot of time off between fights, but i find it hard to question his strategy when he is always so dominant
may be that has preserved him, so he can still be getting big fights at 34.

Assuming he remains undefeated, which I believe he could, he’d probably be 55-0, and probably would have already fought guys like Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Paul Williams, Winky Wright, Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan, and Sergio Martinez.
