What is the difference of “Finding the Percentage” and “Finding the Percent”?

People around me are confusing me. They always mistaken the percentage and percent! I know its different.

How do I solve a word problem for finding the PERCENTAGE?
Is it:
1. Divide
2. Multiply by 100

How about finding the percent?

They are grammatically different. Percentage is noun while Percent is an adverb. In your case, you’re dealing with word problems but i can’t tell what kind of word problem you’re into. Usually in word problems, you’ll get to find the Percent not the Percentage esp. with rates. I don’t know what exactly your problem is but let me give you an example:

For example you get to calculate a basketball player’s field goal percentage:
let’s say he was 4 out of 5 or 4/5. So if you divide 4 by 5 you’ll get 0.8 and then multiply by 100 or simply just move 2 decimal places to the right. And there you go, he’s got 80% field goal percentage. And, BTW, in finding percent well just change your sentence. Make it “He’s 80 percent of field goals”.
