1/256 Native American blood?

A friend was over the other night, and the subject of our conversation turned to ethnicity and race. This friend has done extensive genealogical research into their families’ ancestral lines. She was describing how she was the classic ‘American Mutt,’ with her parents’ having ancestors from Germany, Ireland, England, Norway, France, and Sweden. Then she tells me of a Native American ancestor.

It seems that she had found an Indian person in one of her father’s ancestral lines in Oklahoma, back in the early 18’s. I estimate that this would make her about 1/256 Indian.

Note that this girl is about as white as you can get, having green eyes and sandy blond hair, and European facial features, as you would expect from her European ancestry.

I know that most people have practical notions of what makes a person white. I am just wondering, are there any serious people here who would not consider my friend white? Would her ancestry prevent you from condoning a marriage between her and your son/brother?

  • Um the chicks White lol.

    1/256? LMFAO!

  • I have a VERY small percentage of Native American in my ancestry (more than 1/256) but I consider myself to be white. If someone asks my ancestry I will include everything I know, including the Native American, but I am white. White as can be… Your friend is definitely white. Someone that would be discriminatory toward her because she is 1/256 Native American needs to get lost anyway!

  • I think it stops counting after 1/4. I could find out I’m like 1/32 or 1/64 Native, but it would be too little to mention.

  • loool wot a stupid question, even if she was 1/8 native american shes still white, even if she was a 1/4 native and 3/4 european shes still white – end of story.

  • …….. Why are you white people so strict? Most African American has at least a great great white grandfather and you people want to complain about 1/256

I even know some people with grandparents of other races but they don’t claim it.

  • Troll.

You’ve asked this same question 50 or 60 times, I believe.

    Can’t think of anything better?
