Activities to enjoy with disabled mum?

My mother is coming to stay with me and my husband for the weekend. She has very limited mobility in her legs and refuses to use a wheel chair. I want to keep everyone entertained and am just wondering what activities can we all do, both indoors and outdoors? We have an Xbox 360 with Kinect which I think could be an option but she is a bit of a technophobe so we’ll have to see how that goes. In the past we have taken pottery painting sessions and played board games but I would like to try something different. Any ideas?

  • What about watching a good movie she will like or playing cards or fun board games, going out to eat at a good restaurant. Just being with her and talking should be mostly enough. Do what she likes to do as she is your guest. If you are not sure, ask her what she would like to do.

  • Do the movie idea but make a big deal out of it. Make popcorn, draw the curtains and make the room dark, get lots of different candy.

You could play cards, maybe learn a new game.

Go though old pictures and it would be a great time to put names and dates on them

Could give each other manicures, my daughter did this for me the other day

    Here’s to a great weekend

  • Slow dancing? The one she dances with can hold her up if there is trouble.

Go sight seeing. If you have to stay in; search the Internet for beautiful places to look at.

Take up Scrape booking each other.

  • I understand why she’d be bothered about using a wheelchair… my partner used to be the same. Everyone likes to be seen as independant and capable… It all comes down to dignity really… Maybe she’d feel better about using a motorised scooter she could use herself without any assistance? If she was okay about that, going shopping could be fun… If not, how about baking?
