With summer break coming up, and my partner & I both working this year, we need a sitter. There are five kids, ages 12, 8,7,6 and 3. No diapers, no health issues, no behavior problems. (My 12 year old just isn’t responsible enough to be left alone 8 hours a day.) The woman who watches my 3 year old right now is 25, red-cross certified, and I’m currently paying her 80$ a week. What would be a fair price to pay for all 5 kids?

Thanks for the answers so far! (Some of them anyway…) The hours would be from 8 am to 4 pm Monday thru Friday. I have asked my sitter already what she would expect each week, and she said make a reasonable offer. I’m also going to be providing the lunches, snacks and drinks for my kids while they are there. And the 80$ a week is for only ONE kid, who is currently being babysat at this time. I’m glad that some people can afford to pay a babysitter 4$ a week, but I might as well quit my job if that is the cost.

Hmm i would say $2 a week would be pretty good. You should talk to her and see what she would be happy with
280-3… 80 bucks a week for 8hrs for 1 kid is pretty damn cheap… Unless the hours are different for each child which you didn’t specify would have helped. These are children and not pets. Im not saying that your asking for deal but I don’t think anyone deserves a special deal for more business especially when it comes to the care of children. My friend babysat her small cousin for 9 hrs a day for 2 a week.. 80 for 1 child is a damn good pricel and good babysitters are hard to find… It’s not 1 kid it’s 4. Your better off speaking to her to decide whats fair because she’s the one you have to pay
80$ for 8 hours a day for 5 kids? Seriously? That works out at $2/hr and 40c per child per hour…is that really the value you put on your kids? The going rate in the UK is £8/hr which works out at roughly $15. That works out a $6 a week for 40 hrs. At the very least you should be paying minimum wage- it’s illegal not to.
Its not nearly enough I would say $3 plus a week 🙂
