  • A self realized person has no duty to fulfill. There is no meaning to it if you ask ‘what does it mean’.

In the Hinduism there is a term that have been presented to the world referring to a profound spiritual awakening and it is called Self Realization. What does it mean? Is the awakening from an illusory self identify image (Ego) to the true, divine, perfect condition that we really Are. When a person is ready to “realize” the true reality of their being, behind all human notions and believes one can say that has enter into the path of Self Realization. We most define some concepts for you to understand more clearly what I’m talking about.

The Hinduism Vedanta as teaches that by asking your ”self”, Who am I? and looking for that “I” and realizing that is not Real, then the true Divine I, the Soul is revealed as your true divine condition. Yet, many saints from the past have achieved this without looking for it in different path such as: prayer, devotion, meditation and service.

    Happiness and self-realization
The concept of self-realization states that it is the ultimate goal of a human being to attain permanent happiness and complete independence and freedom from all worldly bondage, and that true happiness is then the result of self-realization.

Everyone must engage in some sort of activity in this material world. But actions can either bind one to this world or liberate one from it. By acting for the pleasure of the Supreme, without selfish motives, one can be liberated from the law of karma (action and reaction) and attain transcendental knowledge of the self and the Supreme.

A self realized person has duties to fulfill:
Bhagavad Gita Verse 19, Chapter 3
tasmaadasaktah satatam kaaryam karma samaachara |
asakto hyaacharan karma paramaapnoti purushaha |I

Therefore, always perform prescribed actions diligently without attachment; for, by performing action without attachment, an individual attains the supreme.

Hence, ”No one can flee from duties, that one should perform selfless rather than selfish duties”.

What you say is not right. I don’t know wherefrom you took these following words
” Can we take ramana maharishi as example for this since he didnt performed any prescribed duties and spent his entire lifetime in thought of god and self ….. .”

Do you say Shri Ramana Maharishi sat idle thinking of God without doing any duty?

Please read the words of Shri Ramana Maharishi:
” The Self is all. Are you apart from the Self ? Or can the work go on without the Self ? The Self is universal so all actions will go on whether you strain yourself to be engaged in them or not. The work will go on of itself. Thus Krishna told Arjuna that he need not trouble to kill the Kauravas because they were already slain by God. It was not for him to resolve to work and worry himself about it, but to allow his own nature to carry out the will of the higher power..”

  • who is ramana maharishi?

  • Ramana Maharishi’s philosophy is far beyond the usual religious ideas and social bindings.

His definition of true self realization is the toughest to achieve because it meant total dissolution of self as without that the duality can not be overcome…. when the self itself is totally dissolved and merged into the Almighty (Brahman), where is the case for any rights or duties for an individual body, mind or soul?

  • Means you eat a mean at a Ramana Hotel while you think of it’s depth.

  • Can you provide the link about Ramana Maharishi where he said….”A self Realized person has no duty to full fill”…..??

  • You have so many basic doubts in your mind and lot of misconceptions then why do you jump to give reckless answers? You can atleast stay away from giving wrong answers and stop fooling around.

  • There is a book if you read it all your doubts will be vanished, cleareed.

the book is : YOGA VASISHTA OR it is also called VASISHTA RAMA SAMVADAM

if you know telugu read the book published by RAMAKRISHNA MATH , hyderabad.

  • If some one stops doing anything, it means, he is dead to this world.

  • I think,
    it means,
since a self realized being has no ego,
so he does not possess the sense of a doer or attached to what he does,
even if he is performing all of his duties.

    Source(s):
    self.

  • I have an answer to this one.

A self realized person is the one who has realized the reality, he is not different from God any more, he (as in self) is not doing any work but is allowing the divine wisdom to take control of his words and actions. That person (who he was before self realization) was just a normal man like us but after he is self realized he is not that person, the person you knew before is not anymore.

We are living in India a country where we have heard so many stories of God men (the self realized ones with orra like a moon behind their heads ofc which was not visible to naked eyes) doing good deeds in an unnatural way, we can’t point finger to some God men and say “he didn’t did anything” but it won’t be wrong to say that “he (who had control over that body before self realization) didn’t did anything after self realization, whatever his body was saying/doing was word from God. But bro that type of people are rare infact very rare, either you won’t be able to find them or if you find them you won’t be able to identify them, it requires great luck or say bhakti or good karma to find a true guru.

About that Ramana rishi, IDK anything about that person maybe he didn’t did anything or maybe what he did was something which cannot be noticed by ordinary human brain….it will be logically wrong for an unenlightened human to say “he didn’t do anything” when we (unenlightened humans) know that we cannot fully understand functioning and games (leela) of God.

But for one who takes pleasure in the self, whose human life is one of self-realization, and who is satisfied in the self only, fully satiated — for him there is no duty. A self-realized man has no purpose to fulfill in the discharge of his prescribed duties, nor has he any reason not to perform such work. Nor has he any need to depend on any other living being.
    No duty to perform
A person who is fully Krsna conscious, and is fully satisfied by his acts in Krsna consciousness, no longer has any duty to perform. Due to his being Krsna conscious, all impiety within is instantly cleansed, an effect of many, many thousands of yajna performances. By such clearing of consciousness, one becomes fully confident of his eternal position in relationship with the Supreme. His duty thus becomes self-illuminated by the grace of the Lord, and therefore he no longer has any obligations to the Vedic injunctions. Such a Krsna conscious person is no longer interested in material activities and no longer takes pleasure in material arrangements like wine, women and similar infatuations.
    End note
A self-realized man is no longer obliged to perform any prescribed duty, save and except activities in Krsna consciousness. Krsna consciousness is not inactivity either, as will be explained in the following verses. A Krsna conscious man does not take shelter of any person — man or demigod. Whatever he does in Krsna consciousness is sufficient in the discharge of his obligation.

  • briefly:
when the inner self and outer self become one, a higher self emerges; a more integrated self with all the abilities, knowledge, and awareness of the inner self and outer self combined..
when this higher self learns to maintain his new integrity, hold the focus of his new perspective, assimilate his new knowledge and develop his new abilities to finesse he can be called self-realized.
    the self made real

  • it means exactly that.

  • The intent of anyone while performing an action is to intrinsically realize that they are the soul, whether one is aware of that or not. Through supreme action ( thinking, meditation, charity, devotion) one attains this supreme knowledge or realization. There will be no “intent” to perform action after realization. After realization, the actions are carried by our “nature”, which we will not identify ourselves with. At that point, we would rather have identified ourselves with our soul.
