Advice on Acer warranty?

My hard drive was stolen from my laptop. Ive contacted Acer and explained the situation.

They said as it was a theft issue and it is not covered in the warranty. They want me to pay £. to take it in and look at it. Then a new hard drive will be £-£, and they didnt say how much it would be to put the factory settings software on.

Whilst i accept if theft is not included then i will have to pay for the new hard drive and the software to go back on. What i dont understand is this £. charge to take it in. I have a platinum warranty, so surely that should cover that charge.

Any advice would be great. Especially from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation with Acer.

  • Well I’m in the U.S. and not familiar with your laws, etc. but here’s what I think.

. If you have apt or home insurance you may be able to claim the stolen hard drive cost on that policy under it’s theft clause.

. Laptop hard drive are just a simple module that slides into a slot and is held in by a couple of small screws and is very easy to install yourself or by a friend that is familiar with pcs somewhat. The Acer website may have a “Service Manual” for you laptop that you can download and it will tell you how to do this.

. If you have the operating system disks that may have come with your pc the task is nothing more complicated than installing any software. It’s a matter of putting the disk(s) in the drive and running them. If you’re not familiar with how to do all this, a friend might be able to help you.

. If you don’t have the recovery disks for your laptop, call Acer and ask them what the cost would be to purchase them now. If you are still in warranty it should be more than $ to $ U.S.

Once you have the hard drive and the disks it’s all a pretty simple process and it will save you a substantial amount of money.

    Hope this helps. Good Luck!!!
