Are Offensive Linemen Always Big?

I play OL and I’m wondering if I should try to put on some weight. I’m in grade 8 weigh 150-160 lbs, and am 5’11. Although I know I don’t sound very good, I like to think I’m good at it.(I rarely let anyone past me.) So are offensive linemen ALWAYS big, and should I try to put on some weight?

  • There are NFL lineman that were that size at your age. The question is are you going to grow, and how far do you want to take the sport. If you want to play in college, you will need to put on about 50 pounds in the next 4 years.

  • Yes i mean if you are a shorter Olinemen you will most likeley get asked to play inside but Tackles are normally giants in college & pro

  • Personally, I do not believe that you need to gain any weight for football. However, I do not believe that your best fit is on the offensive line.

Based on your height and weight, I believe that the best fit for you is at strong safety. Your height gives you the potential to become an elite high school strong safety.

My best advice for you is to work hard and perform very well in practice every day. In addition, what you need to do this (and every) offseason is eat healthy, exercise by doing weight lifting, and either jogging or going for a long run every day. If you do these things, you will get faster, stronger, and into better shape, which will greatly improve your chances of becoming a successful, top notch high school football player, who could go on to play college football in the future.

  • Not necessarily, I’m about 5’6 and I’ve played o-line a vast majority of my 16 years. So to answer your question, noo, not all the time.
