Are stereotypes true?

Is the problem with stereotypes that they assume a description of all people, when really the stereotype applies to most, but not all? I think some people think that all stereotypes are completely false, when really they are true for most but not all. Most Asians are bad drivers. Most white people can’t dance. Most Jews are stingy with money. These all seem true from observations made by me and other people. They have to come from somewhere. Are stereotypes completely false, or somewhat true, and just false as an all-encompassing idea about a culture.

  • Stereotypes usually come with more then a shred of truth, which is why sometimes they are accurate. But honestly too many times I’ve experienced stereotypical people not acting like their “supposed” to so basing your opinions on someone through a stereotype is pretty foolish

  • Stereotypes can be true, but are most often based on a dramatization or work of fiction. There are cases where stereotypes may be true, but often they are not.

  • The idea od money-stereotypes linked to Jews comes from the Middle Ages when Jews were forced to be money-lenders as their only legal profession as Islam and the Church had rules against usury (earning interest on a loan)Most Jews are not rich ,most Jews are not miserly. Those money-stereopyes of Jews are false

  • I agree with you.
I don’t see why people think stereotypes are bad and wrong.
They are very true for the most part.

And stereotypes are also funny. Who cares? 🙂

  • Well, I heard of many American stereotypes and most of them are true.

    Examples:
    1. Americans don’t have common sense/dumb
    2. Americans are obese
    3. USA keeps poking around, not able to mind their own business
