Asking how hard/durable wood putty is?

I have a hole in my door and was wondering if this wood putty would be durable and last.

  • I used this stuff on a deck outside. It was to fill a large hole where a knot used to be but fell out. It too does not take stain well but you can put a few drops in it while mixing it to tint it. It works best if your painting it. Dries hard as a rock and lasts a LONG time. No problem with cracks at all either. I either got it at lowes or home depot.

  • Yes. If they’re small holes you can use caulk. Avoid the silicone (bath tub-type) caulk because the paint tends to bead up. Use a Latex caulk instead. Actually, for about $. you can buy a can of what’s called Painters’ Putty which is designed to do exactly what you are doing. A small amount on your finger tip and gluch it over the hole…and you’re done.

  • Once its painted it lasts just as long as wood. It doesn’t take stain too well, to be matched up to old stain, because when it dries its not porous as wood. Or at least I’ve never got stain to match. Depends on how big the hole is. You can patch a deep hole by applying light coats and letting it dry. One thick wet coat will tend to crack as it dries.

  • this will depend on how big the hole is there r a few ways go about fixing it if its small u can just use plaster filler bigger holes u can put something in the hole in side the door n use Liquid nails t hold that in place the use plaster filler or u can patch it most times u will use a patch on a wall someone punched a big hole in to then u will have cut out a peace of the door then cut a peace of timber the same size place it in like a gig saw peace then plaster it
