Can I get an iPhone 4S contract without a credit history. I've just turnt 18?

I’ve just turnt 18 and I really want the iPhone, if I go for the iPhone 4 instead of the 4S will it be easier to pass and what about the credit history.

  • Probably not is the honest answer because of the lack of credit history. However, take a cheaper contract (but contribute more towards the phone, for instance £239 on Vodafone) and you stand a better chance. Every credit search done against you is recorded, and multiple credit searches in a short space of time can count against you. I am assuming you already have a mobile phone and that you are on pay as you go. You can get some credit history behind you by contacting your network now and moving to a SIM free post-pay deal – this will not only get you better call and text rates, but will establish some credit for you both with the network and on your credit file. Then say, in 6 months, you should have enough of a track record with them to get the phone you want, including the iphone 4s (or 5 if it is out)

If you’re thinking ‘yes but I’m not sure I want the 4S in 6 months time’ then think: should I be trying to sign up for a 24 month contract for one?

    Very best of luck
