Car dome light broken – HELP?

My dome light won’t work. It isn’t a matter of simply checking the bulb because I’ve tried:

– Checking bulb – used two different bulbs that are OK
– Checking switches on the dome light fixture – actually bought a different enclosure and tried that
– I checked the fuse – fuse looks okay, but just in case I replaced the fuse. Still nothing.
– I used a multimeter and checked for voltage coming from the wires that the dome light plugs into – no voltage detected
– Used multimeter again and I checked to see if electricity was coming from the fuse designated for overhead lights – no power detected but it detected power on other fuse numbers.
– I don’t think it’s an issue of the ground wire not being grounded because there’s no power coming from the fuse box so I think it’s something else.
– It won’t work when the doors are open, closed, anything.
– I don’t think it’s a relay issue because nothing else electrical in my car doesn’t work…

Really puzzled here, can anyone give me other ideas?

Thanks

  • Does the fuse control that plus other things? Or only the light? If its only the dome test the fuse with the meter to make sure it has a curent running though it. If the fuse is good it makes little sense why it would be dead at the bulb. Check the fuse first to make sure it has a current through it then you need to chase wires and find where something either came loose or corroded.
