Our church treasurer became unemployed and is receiving support pay from the church.Can you continue being church treasurer even though he is receiving support pay. Is there a conflict of interest in this case. If so please include references that address this specific situation.

I don’t think it’s really a conflict of interest. Many companies have book keepers or accounts that have to write their own paychecks. The trick is that another person has to sign or authorize the check. As long as the treasurer isn’t the person who also signs the check there is little room for any financial games. But if the person who is responsible to sign the checks doesn’t do his or her job right all bets are off. More than one company has faced bankruptcy because they didn’t keep track of their book keeper.
