My computer is working fine now. I had it plugged into the top plug on the wall outlet and it sounded one long beep and two short beeps. I unplugged it and plugged it into the bottom plug and my computer came on fine. What was the problem?

Depending on your motherboard. Usually a long beep has something to do with your memory
What’s your computer model? Different manufacturers have different beep codes indicating various faults during the power on self test. Beeps can indicate anything from a memory problem to a video failure or an issue with the power supply (the most likely problem since switching outlets seems to have fixed it)
This could be a Award bios or IBM Bios and both indicate a Video/monitor problem
from previous experience on my PC that’s a video card failure, but obviously it wasn’t a complete failure like the one i experienced.
the cable connecting it to the monitor probably came loose and shorted it out the cable you replaced was probably the VGA/DVI/HDMI cable
Depends on the make of your BIOS.
