Could I handle a .5 s&w?

I’ve been working my way up and have gone from a .22 to a .44 magnum. I’ve fired about 4 rounds through a super Redhawk Alaskan and am ready to take a step up to the .5 s&w, or should I probably go for the .460 s&w first?

  • Anyone (with the exception of people with certain health problems) can handle shooting .5 S&W Magnum.

So long as you use the proper shooting technique, you should do fine.

  • if you know what you’re doing, you can handle that handfull of testosterone known as the .5 s&w. When you’re done with the handbangers jump on up to the task of shooting some of the big bore double rifles that are so popular over in Africa. You might want to start off with something light like a .458 lott, and then work your way up to something “special” like a .6 nitro xpress. I love to shoot a lot , but i do not believe in punishing myself. There are definitely user friendly rounds out there that one can shoot accurately all day long, and then there are some that will make you question your sanity shortly after you squeeze off that first round, and any thereafter.shooting is supposed to be fun.

  • Both .460 & .5 S&W will make just about anything short of a light .44 Mag. revolver’s (S&W 329 PD) recoil feel like an airsoft gun. .5 S&W recoil is beyond polite.

My opinion is that there are better ways to waste your money. Like buying more ammo for this Redhawk.

Who cares if you can handle it? Will you actually enjoy shooting it?

  • Don’t be a wimp; just go for it. Here in Montana the 5 is quite popular as a backup weapon to carry in your pickup and stuff. You can load up some pretty impressive handloads in that caliber, too.

  • don’t be a wimp one of the first pistols I shot was a 5 S&W Magnum revolver. the 8-3/8″ one.

later i shot the snubby. now that’s what I’d call a hand cannon!

  • you’ve got hands right? no arthritis at all? osteoprosis? then you should be fine. just keep your finger away from the front of the cylinder when firing. some idoit did this and blew his ****** thumb off.
