Could the Heineken cup semi final between Munster clermont have been fixed?

My dad was saying it coulda been implied to refs to give clermont a little leeway in the match. The reasons are that the French are thinking of dropping out of the Heineken cup and a French team winning it could keep them in it. But he said it was just a rumour and nothing’s been officially alleged. Anyone else heard this rumour or believe it

  • Well, thing is, with a lot of conspiracy’s, it seems marginally plausable from a confirmation bias perspective.

However, logically speaking, if this was the case it’d of been a lot more obvious. There were no controversial penalties in the game, Leinster should of beaten Clermont at home in the group stages despite having their second team out due to injurys, and on top of all this, Munster were heavy underdogs and still almost won. The argument would be plausible if Munsters team was of Leinster or Toulouse’s pedigree and lost due to a controversial scrum or penalty but in that game I can’t think of any calls the ref made in terms of scrum penalties, not straight lineouts of penalties at goal that favoured either team.

So I highly doubt it, and if the Heineken cup organisers felt this way, surely theyd of made it so that Munster lost to ‘Quins in the first round? As the English are the main team that wants to pull out. The French are unsure as usual, no surprises there.

Besides with Owens being the ref, the most stubborn ref ever potentially, he’d of told the ERC where to stick it. As thats his character. Saying that, the referee’s are supplied by the IRB, if the ERC told them to fix a game they’d report it, as they aren’t employed by the ERC the tournament organisers. The IRB in essence ‘loan’ referee’s to competitions through the facility of their national organisations/

  • Munster will win we’ve beaten the female boys two times this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days already and lost to in ordinary words 3 communities Connacht, Ulster and Claremont (in ordinary words a million of those became with a Munster first determination 15; away to Claremont interior the HC and we were given the dropping bonus pt) we are on a 10 tournament prevailing streak including beating the Ospreys two times, Sale and Leinster we’ve 8 lions (Hayes from the 25 excursion) including the captain and likely 9 if Stringer receives the decision and we’ve the record attempt scorer for the all blacks in Howlett we are Magners League champs (not undesirable for a crew that “doesn’t care” about that competition) and the present HC champions we’ve 8 out of the placing out a million-10 of eire’s grand slam prevailing crew and that i’d take Leamy and Quinlan merely before Ferris and Heaslip any day if we lose interior the semi-very last to Leinster it’s going to be between the most important upsets in HC historic past

  • The issues which the French and Engish clubs have with the Heineken Cup format are such that a win in any given game is not going to have much effect. You might be able to argue that the officiating favoured the French style at the breakdown more than it did the Irish, but that is about all you can say.

  • I doubt it Im from munster and i thought before the game we were gonna get thrashed and we nearly won it in the end, i was pleased with the performance
