Cricket Australia employs Hick, Is this the 1st time a country has acknowledged T20 is damaging test ideals?

Is Hick the best choice or would you choose someone else?

  • Graeme Hick is one of the best batsman England has produced in Tests and ODIs.His technique is simple and best for Test Cricket,I welcome his selection.Employing an English player before Ashes though makes me thinks that its more than just changing the mindsets of young Aussie batsman,it could also be for the knowledge of local conditions and how to get adjusted to it.

Well i never an English man teaching an Aussie how to play test cricket ,i think its a great idea bt i would of chosen Chris Tavaré He adapted his natural game to meet the requirements of the Test side, becoming a notorious blocker In 1981 against Australia at Old Trafford he scored 69 and 78, but was at the crease for twelve hours., but joking aside one of my questions i posted was should warner open and everyone said yes , there’s now way he s an opener hes not even doing it in IPL middle mate middle hes a good batsman but middle

Hick was a useless test batsman but a really good domestic cricketer `some one like Boycott would be better

  • Seems a bit odd hiring a Pom to teach our batsmen how to beat England! We have many fine ex batsmen who could do the job just as well or better. The Chappells,Kim Hughes, the Waughs etc,why not them?

  • The idea is fine but not the choice. After he gained his residency, how many good scores did he get for England, not a lot. Mark Waugh shouldn’t be looked at. As a batsman, a quick hundred and then back to the pavillian. I would have picked someone like Justin Langer. never a great fan but he did know how to build an innings. Problem with some of our better batsmen is that they are tied up with broadcasting.

  • I agree with Bill P, Australia definitely need someone to help the young batsmen out but I’m not sure if Hick is the best choice. He has a much better first class record than most retired international players but he never really made it as an England batsman. I would have picked someone with a bit more of a proven track record on the international stage. According to that article only one person scored two centuries in the Sheffield Shield by the end of January! That is pretty desperate and whereas he maybe not the best choice I still think he has plenty to teach the younger Aussies.

  • WTF are they thinking? First they let a South African with a secret hidden agenda coach the national side and now they are letting a POM in the ranks to mess the side up more to lose to England this summer if he can’t mess them up more for the series in England.

What about someone like Matthew Hayden? He could bat for a long time in test cricket and also had a good record in India. At least he wants Australia to win rather then South Africa or England.
