Hi Michele Daniels,
I would recommend you to check for the status of wireless drivers in Device Manager. Click on Start > Run > type devmgmt.msc and in Device Manager click on Network Adapter.
You should see driver for Wireless card. If there is a yellow bang, update Wireless card drivers from the manufacturer’s website.
Also, in some laptops there is a wireless button or switch to enable the wireless ability. Function keys combination also can be used to enable wireless ability.

Yes only if the laptops had WiFi adapters ( which are likely to be built into the motherboard ).
