Do i need a motorcycle gasket?

I have an 03 r6 and I changed my stock exhaust to a blue mtc one, see link-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-YZF-R6-…

It came with the blue end can and link pipe. The link pipe would not fit with the existing gasket as it was quite a good tight fit. So I removed the gasket, and carried on without one. I’ve had alot of people saying it’s really bad riding it without one and I could damage my new exhaust. Is this really the case?? I’ve googled it online and alot of people saying you will get leaks without one, but there is no smoke escaping at all, and all seems to be running fine?

  • You need the gasket to keep it from sucking in cool air back into the cylinder. The cylinder gets very hot and the coming into it is cooler and it will crack your piston or will affect your rings. messing with vehicles 49 yrs riding also for 49 yrs
  • the gasket needs to be in there, its going to suck cool air into the motor and bend a valve.

  • It was important enuf to be included in the kit.
