While time and migration have lessened some aspects, we still fuss with each other about Confederate flags, how atrocious Sherman’s March to the Sea across Georgia was, whether the commandant of Andersonville Prison Camp was guilt of war crimes or not (there are some interesting web pages on this topic, all claiming he should be exonerated,) and the role of race in our nation. Therefore, I sincerely believe that the nature, duration, severity, brutality, and issues of the Civil War continue to shape our social, political, and racial attitudes today. They are less associated with specific political parties, but with political mindsets they stay strong.
