Do you think, Ab de Viller is best, when it comes to playing shots behind the wicket ?

I’m watching him since long time, he plays such difficult unorthodox shots so beautifully and easily. He rarely gets out on those shots. How would you rate his this ability?

  • AB Devilliers is a treat to watch when he is on song,What’s great about AB Devilliers is his ability to be flexible and judge the length quickly and he is also technically very good.He is one of the rare batsman in World Cricket who can play proper Cricket shots as well as unorthodox Cricket shots with ease, that’s why he fares so well in all the three formats. What’s great about him playing those behind shots is the fact that he is always in control when he plays those shots, his eyes are always on the ball and his heads drops down only after making contact with the ball to send it behind the wicket. He also doesn’t lose his balance like some of the other batsman do when trying to execute that shot.Sometimes he uses the bowlers pace and sometimes his own to pull off those great scoops.I would rate both him and Brendon McCullum to be the best players when it comes to playing the scoop shots, they can do it even if they are facing 140+ speed bowlers with ease.

  • De Villiers is the best batsman in the IPL for me. I rank him even ahead of Gayle, considering his value.

But, considering your question, I would rather say that he is “one of the best” but not the best.

‘TM Dilshan’ is the best batsman considering shots behind the ‘leg side’ of the wicket for me. His ‘dilscoop’ is so wonderful to watch. he fetches sixes by it with ease.

On the other hand, ‘Mahela Jayawardene’ seems like the batsman who is best in ‘off side’ behind wicket shots. His cheeky shots behind off side of the wicket against spinners and pacers are very well executed.

Overall, ‘Eoin Morgan’ is the batsman I give rank 1 for the innovative shots behind the wicket. He is unarguably the best improviser in cricket I’ve ever seen.

  • No, you are mistaken. It is none other than the great His Lordship Ravindra Jadeja, who is the best player when it comes to playing shots behind the wicket. No one, and I mean no one edges the ball as cleanly behind the wicket as he does. And mind you, he delivers such shots with the most ease. He hardly gets out on such a shot; even if he does, then it is called a no-ball. His shots are 1% result oriented- a guarantee of picking the most delicate gaps between the third man and the wicket keeper. Much respect to his abilities.

EDIT : At most AB de Villiers will reverse sweep Dale Steyn for sixes consecutively, but you are missing an important point here. Where is the finesse that only the great SIR commands?

  • I think……
