Do you think people do best when they are left with their native culture?

For example do you notice that countries like the Philippines, which was controlled by the Spanish for many years is in poverty, while a country like Japan who kept out European imperialism built a strong economy. In Africa you notice that most of the tribal people who have kept their old ways and knowledge are able to live off their environments while many africans assimilated into the western economic structures are struggling and dying of starvation or suffering in poverty. The same could be said about indigenous people in the Americas, the ones in Brazil who are still living in the traditional way are well suited for their environment and aren’t struggling through poverty, bad housing and hunger like many of the other indigenous people.

Do you think there is some truth in this or do you think this is just my observation?

You need to figure out what’s better. What’s better for us in western society may not be what’s best for everybody.

I think we as Americans have a problem with being nosy. We can help a person or group of people by giving them food and or water and by showing them how to fend for themselves but we can’t force our society on them just because we think its better.
